The Farm @ Summertown

Crusing down the highway just out of Nashville, Betty came across this cool Anti-war school bus that was driving around the States protesting against the war in Iraq. After getting to know the crew on board they let us know about a hippie commune known as ‘the farm’, which was a couple of hours south in Summertown.

We arrived late at night and the next morning Betty wasn’t feeling to well and wouldn’t start - stranded in Summertown. We spent half the day making things worse when Gary and Liz from the farm happened to swing by, telling us about a guy on the farm who knew a bit about Volkswagens. And so we met ‘the Merlin’..

It’s amazing how things work out - especially when you’re on the right path. We could have broken down anywhere in America, but it just happened to be right there - at that time. Energy is a funny thing. Beyond fixing up Betty, the Merlin showed us how we can live without dependance on products. How we can all try to produce intstead of consume. How we can all try to give a little more and take a little less..

The farm community of Summertown is working toward a better future for everyone - check it out: http://www.thefarm.org/
